Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora could be poised to reset the market for managerial contracts next season as he enters the final year of his current deal.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Sunday that several teams have already expressed “strong” interest in potentially signing Cora after his contract expires. Nightengale adds that because of the strong interest, Cora could get a contract that beats the five-year, $40 million record deal that Craig Counsell got from the Chicago Cubs earlier this offseason.

Cora is regarded around the league as one of the game’s better managers. He won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2018, and the team liked him enough that they actually re-hired him a year after firing him over his role in the Houston Astros’ 2017 cheating scandal.

Just because Cora is attracting interest from other teams does not mean the Red Sox won’t be the ones to ultimately sign him to big money. There were even rumors that they could turn their baseball operations over to him this offseason, even though that did not ultimately happen.
