Brandon Staley may be having his full-circle moment.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Tuesday that the former Los Angeles Chargers coach Staley will be interviewing for the defensive coordinator job of the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams need a new DC after Raheem Morris left to take a head coaching job elsewhere.
That is a pretty fitting interview for Staley because, well, that job used to be his. He served as Rams DC under Sean McVay during the 2020 season and thrived in his role, overseeing a defense that ranked first in the NFL in both yards and points allowed per game.
For Staley, who is still only 41, neither his decision-making nor his results produced were up to par in his three seasons as head coach of the Chargers. But that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to draw DC interest around the league (from both the Rams and another NFC team).
