The San Diego Padres will be down two of their best pitchers for the foreseeable future.
The Padres announced Saturday that both Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove will be placed on the injured list. Darvish is dealing with a groin strain, while Musgrove’s issue was characterized as right elbow inflammation.

Musgrove’s issue will be most concerning. He was scheduled to start on Saturday, but clearly the Padres had concerns about his health. He just came back from a similar issue and made two starts, posting a 2.16 ERA. More worryingly, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune felt the need to clarify that Musgrove’s injury is not thought to be season-ending.
Padres starter Joe Musgrove will go on the IL with a recurrence of the triceps/elbow issue that sidelined him last month.
It is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.

The Padres enter play Saturday at 31-29, and they remain firmly in the playoff picture with a long way to go. However, they have been hit hard by injuries in the last month, which will really test their staying power.
