Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips will miss some time due to a hamstring injury he sustained in a rather unusual way.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Phillips will go to the injured list with what is hoped to be a short-term injury. The closer suffered the injury when his spike got caught in the grass while he was playing catch on Saturday.

It sounds like Phillips was the victim of a freak accident that fortunately is not serious. The 29-year-old has been lights out as the Dodger closer this season, posting an ERA of 0.66 with eight saves in 14 appearances so far in 2024.

It may sound silly, but warmups and batting practice can be dangerous places for ballplayers. Phillips is just the latest to find that out.
