The Atlanta Hawks appear ready to undo some big decisions they have made over the past few years.
Hawks guard Dejounte Murray is considered to be “widely available” ahead of the February trade deadline and is viewed as the top point guard option on the market, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. The 14-19 Hawks are seen as likely to move veteran assets and focus on building around Trae Young and Jalen Johnson.
A Murray trade would be a massive about-face for Atlanta, as they gave the guard a huge contract extension just six months ago, and gave up three first-round picks to acquire him a year before that. Pairing Murray with Young did not work out as the Hawks had hoped, which may be a motivating factor in making him available.
Murray is averaging 20.6 points and 5.2 assists per game this season. Even with the expensive contract extension that kicks in next season, he would be a major target for a lot of contending teams.
