Aaron Rodgers shares piece of advice for Anthony Richardson

Aaron Rodgers has been impressed with what he has seen from Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson thus far, but there is one area in which he thinks the rookie needs to do a better job.

During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers had high praise for Richardson and said the former Florida star “has a chance to be really special.” One of the ways Rodgers thinks Richardson can fulfill that potential is by learning to slide more often.

“Like I tell a lot of young quarterbacks, sometimes you’ve got to slide,” Rodgers said. “He’s a big, strong dude. I tell this to Josh Allen all the time, he’s been doing it for a while. Every now and then there’s a time and a place if you want to run somebody over. … Those plays are not really sustainable long, long term and that way of playing.”

Richardson suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder when he was tackled on a designed run play in the Colts’ win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The injury was his third in four games. Richardson was shaken up on a scramble play in Indy’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 and left late. The following week, Richardson took a big shot on a touchdown run and sustained a concussion, which sidelined him for Week 3.

There is no question that Richardson’s ability to make plays with his legs is one of his greatest assets. The same has been true for Rodgers throughout his career, and the four-time MVP has also had to learn how to better protect himself.

Another quarterback already gave Richardson similar advice, but it should mean even more coming from Rodgers.
